(Monty Brinton/Showtime/Associated Press) This American Life host Ira Glass brings his live show Reinventing Radio to Vancouver Saturday. The way the American system works, there's not a network boss the way there is at the CBC. But when we tried to sell it to other radio stations, then there problems. I didn't have trouble at the radio station I was at. It will be funny and it will have feeling and you feel it's just documenting some aspect of what it's like to be a person, in addition to covering the news, that's the thing I'm talking about.Īnd then I thought there was a style of presentation on public radio that was more formal, and even maybe a little corny, that it seemed like somebody could change. Like on As It Happens sometimes, you hear an interview and you just cannot believe the way the person's character unfolds. Sometimes people achieve it with a really beautiful interview. These kind of driveway-moment stories, that keep you in your driveway. On public radio in the States, there would be one story like that every day or two, and I just thought, well, these are the stories that everybody remembers and loves, and you could just do a whole show out of those. And it's the kind of feature story that you would hear on the daily news shows, where there were characters and scenes and feelings, and there was just space for things to happen, and for the characters to feel three-dimensional. "There was a kind of story that I really loved. The conversation ranged from Glass's earliest vision for This American Life, to the changing landscape in public media. Glass made the comments earlier this week in a CBC Radio interview with On The Coast's Stephen Quinn. "And partly it's just an excuse to play a lot funny clips." "Basically I wander around stage with an iPad, and I can play clips and music and sound, and recreate the radio show around me as I speak," says Glass. It helps support the operations of more than 1,400 locally-owned and -operated public television and radio stations nationwide, and is the largest single source of funding for research, technology, and program development for public radio, television and related online services.Ira Glass, host of NPR's wildly popular program This American Life, will be stepping out from behind the studio mic and onto the stage at the Vogue Theatre in Vancouver on Saturday. Kennedy Award for Excellence in Journalism. This American Life has won numerous awards including three Peabodys, a duPont-Columbia Award and a Robert F. It is currently broadcast on over 500 public radio stations and has a loyal weekly audience of 1.8 million. The following year, the show became syndicated and distributed by Public Radio International. In 1995, Glass and Chicago Public Radio launched This American Life which Glass created, produced and hosted. Glass left Washington for Chicago in 1989 and co-hosted The Wild Room on Chicago Public Radio. Over the next 17 years, he worked on nearly every NPR news show and did nearly every production job they had: tape cutter, desk assistant, newscast writer, editor, producer, reporter and substitute host. "Congratulations to Ira for his remarkable contributions to public radio over the last thirty years." Glass began his public radio career in 1978 with an internship at NPR in Washington, DC. " This American Life has created a new aesthetic for public radio, now emulated by a new generation of producers and reporters," said Lori Gilbert, CPB board member who presented the award to Glass at the Public Radio Development and Marketing Conference in San Diego, California. The Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) today named Ira Glass, the host and executive producer of This American Life, the recipient of the 2009 Edward R. I was at Phase Forward for a little more than 10 years through our IPO and through I think eight or nine acquisitions in operational and cultural integrations, some of which we did better than others. In our view, technology holds the potential to adjust address some long-standing issues and research, including a lack of accessibility and diversity that may pave way to a convergence of clinical care and research. The FDA has looked favorably on technology enabled and decentralized clinical trial models even prior to COVID, but the pandemic has led to broader adoption of these technologies and models clearing the way for technology companies to continue disrupting the industry at greater scale. Today we’ll be talking about clinical research and the landscape for clinical research is evolving with many sponsors looking to leverage technology to address inefficiencies in the traditional site-based clinical trial process and counter the rising cost of developing new therapies.
